The Dungeons & Dragons club met for the first time today. They will meet on Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. in advisor Eva Clark’s room, 4107.

Sophomores Anna Schmidt and Lane Isbell approached Clark with the thought of starting the club. Sophomore Kasey Sherman gave them the idea.

“I binge-watched the ‘Adventure Zone,’ which is a podcast,” Sherman said. “Then I convinced these two people to start making a club.”

Clark wanted to provide a safe space for students to play D&D.

“They’re the people that aren’t usually recognized because they have their own little niche,” Clark said. “And that’s really cool, so for them to be able to express themselves in a way that other people will understand them, I think that’s a great space for them to come and be themselves and laugh and have fun.”

The students find D&D club is a great opportunity to socialize.

“We’re not usually used to talking to people out of our comfort zones so this club is kind of manifesting into us talking to other people and getting to know other people,” Schmidt said.

Even though it was just the first meeting, Isbell thinks it’s off to a strong start.

“I think it’s really amazing,” Isbell said. “Everyone in (the club) is really cool, it’s super fun. I just think it’s really fun to ‘nerd out.’ With a bunch of people coming in, it’s amazing.”
