Jack Kurburski recognized as January Rotary Student of the Month
Senior Jack Kurburski was honored as January Rotary Student of the Month. He was chosen for his leadership skills and academic excellence. Kurburski was surprised when he found out that he had received the award.
“I was very honored because I know it is a prestigious award,” Kurburski said. “I felt very blessed that a certain teacher nominated me.”
Under normal circumstances, students of the month are invited to attend a luncheon. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the meeting was held virtually.
“With COVID-19, the meeting was held over a Zoom call,” Kurburski said. “Sadly, we didn’t get to eat lunch and really meet the members. Instead, we just introduced ourselves and left the meeting.”
Kurburski was asked to choose a person of significance to accompany him on the call. He chose math teacher Joe Nelson.
“I chose Mr. Nelson because he is someone that holds me to the highest standard,” Kurburski said. “He is an overall great guy.”
Kurburski was grateful to be recognized by the Rotary Club and he learned a lot from the experience.
“I learned that the people in the Rotary Club are all really great and nice people who love to see students succeed,” Kurburski said. “I felt as if my work has paid off throughout this school year.”
