District hosts Cyber Safety Night
October 26, 2015
Chromebooks are officially in the hands of every student. With a direct link to the internet at all times, the district is taking measures to ensure that this technology is used safely.
“With our move to one-to-one technology it is more important than ever to understand how to be safe when on online,” Instructional Technology Coordinator Doug Start said. “Not just students but parents and people in our community that may not be very savvy online.”
For kindergarten through eighth grade, a series of technology safety presentations put on by Michigan’s Attorney General’s office will be offered at their schools. These presentations will cover accessing the Michigan Sex Offender Registry, the effects of digital footprints, the risks of sharing photos, possible dangers to privacy, sexting, and cyber bully warning signs.
For older students and parents, White Pines Intermediate School will be hosting a Cyber Safety Night on Monday, Oct. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. in their performing arts center.
“I am excited that we are bringing back the Attorney General’s office to do our CyberSafety Presentations,” Start said.
