Celebrated globally, Hispanic Heritage Month exists to recognize the influence and traditions their population has brought to the US. This year, Spanish classes will be diving into the culture and analyzing Hispanic influence on our daily routines.

Extending through Wed Sept. 15 – Friday Oct. 15, the heritage month was started to appreciate Hispanic and Latin American heritage, and where they stemmed from.

“I think it’s a good time for students, especially in Grand Haven, to remember that we have such a large population of migrant families, they bring so much more to our community than blueberries,” Señora Bloomquist said, “normally we’d be eating lots of food, however we can’t do that this year.”

For students who aren’t in Spanish, an academy lesson may be created to get more students involved and aware. When the idea was brought up, Señora Bloomquist said, “we’ve never done one before, but I like the idea”.

For those looking to participate on your own time, attending festivals, indulging in traditional Hispanic foods, and consuming printed or digital media, like art, and other types of content are great ways to be proactive.
