Soccer
Record: 14-2-3 (8-1-1 O-K Red)
Key Player: Senior Christian Dault is a leader and playmaker for the Buccaneers. Dault has tallied 6 goals and 6 assists so far.
Quote: “Overall, I think the regular season was pretty great. I think we have a pretty good shot to go deep in the state tournament. So we’re all very excited.” -senior Adam Greer
Key Moment: Defeated Muskegon Mona Shores in the second round of Districts.
Water Polo
Record: 5-4 (1-1 O-K Red)
Key Player: Junior Hayden Schouman is a solid contributor to the Bucs in the scoring column.
Quote: “It’s cool because everybody [in the conference] are all pretty much equal in skill level so anyone could win. It comes down to whoever puts in the most effort.” -senior David Kooistra.
Key Moment: The Bucs defeated conference opponent East Kentwood 10-2.
Football
Record:3-4
Key Player: Senior Chase Pego has really found his place on the team and has been playing well all season. He contributed two touchdowns in a game against East Lansing and also scored against conference opponents Hudsonville and Rockford.
Quote: “We’ve been playing a lot more physical in practice and and it’s been showing on the field how much more aggressive we’ve been playing” -senior Aaron Cummings
Key Moment: The past two games against Rockford and Hudsonville the Bucs suffered tough losses but proved they could compete against some of the top teams in the O-K Red conference
Golf
Record: The team finished ninth at the regional match.
Key Player: Senior Hailey Watkins was a key contributor for the Bucs, with consistently low scores.
Quote: “We improved a lot over the season and I enjoyed spending time with my teammates. Coach Glass was fun to be around and a really good coach.” -freshman Audrey Reus
Key Moment: At the O-K Red postseason tournament, the Bucs scored a 401, coming in fifth.
Tennis
Record: 3-2-3 (1-2-1 in the O-K Red)
Key Player: Senior Varun Biddanda defeated Zach Roxxman of Comstock Park 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles on Thurs., Sept. 25.
Quote: “Really it’s just a mindset. You’ve got to go into every game thinking you’re gonna do better this time. It’s all mental status.” -junior Tristan Tongue
Key Moment: The Bucs came out strong on Sept. 25, sweeping Comstock Park 8-0.
Girls Cross Country
Record: The team finished fourth in the O-K Red Conference
Key Player: Junior Malea Teerman recorded a time of 20:04.9 at the Kent-Ottawa Championships on Saturday, Oct. 11, her best race of the season.
Quote: “I think that our attitudes are everything because the workouts get harder and everything gets more serious. We’re not running random invitationals just to get experience. Everything counts for points.” -junior Hannah Kenny
Key Moment: The team finished first at the 18th Annual Don Anderson Invite on Sept. 3, beating second place Holland Black River by 13 points.
Boys Cross Country
Record: The team finished third in the O-K Conference
Key Player: Jack Nicholson is the fastest runner and has a lot of potential for only being a freshmen.
Quote:“I really like the team commentary,” senior Brent Petersen said. “It’s a cool environment with a lot of different people from a lot of different groups”
Key Moment: First in the conference meet when they came in as underdogs and pulled off an upset.
Swimming and Diving
Record: 2-8
Key Player: Sophomore Michal Thiesen is one of the team’s top swimmers. She set a Ludington pool record with a time of 2:20.77 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Quote: “We’ve had our ups and downs but in the end we always come together.” -junior Tara Lunsford
Key Moment: The team defeated Ludington 107-76 at their meet Sept. 30.
Equestrian Team
Record: Finished sixth in the state
Key Player: Lilly Atkins performs well in every category and is a very versatile rider.
Quote: “I think the season went really well. We worked really hard together.” – freshman Maura Tillman
Key Moment: The experience at state really helped the team prepare for next year’s season.
