Girls cross country

What Happened: The Buccaneers traveled to Portage this past Saturday. The Portage invitational was filled with the states top ranked teams. The Bucs finished at eighth place out of 38 teams. Freshman Gabby Hentemenn finished first for the team followed by senior Hannah Kenny.

Key player: Hentemann continues to lead the Buccaneers in races, she keeps her team in each and every meet as her top scores help the team stay close. She got her personal best time by dropping her time by a minute.

They said it:  “Placing eighth was an accomplishment because there was over 40 teams,”  Buitenhuis said. “We haven’t been in the top ten in awhile”

Key Moment: Senior Audrey Boersen got her personal best saturday to finish third for the buccaneers, the bucs needed her fastest run of the year to finish 8th in front of  Waynedotte Roosevelt.


Boys cross country

What Happened: On Saturday, October 3 the boys cross country team traveled to the Allendale Falcon Invitational, competing against several local teams. They finished second overall along with every single runner on the team recording a personal best time. Later that week they ran at Hudsonville for their second O-K Red jamboree of the season and the team recorded another second place victory. On Saturday, Oct. 10 the Grand Haven cross country team raced at the Portage Invitational which is one of the most difficult meets the team will compete in this year. The team finished 20th overall out of 200 schools.

Key player:Sophomore Jack Nicholson, the Bucs top runner, ran a personal best time of 15.45 at Portage and is closing in on the overall school record of 15.32.
