Wrestling team defeats East Kentwood in conference match, 38-30

What happened: The Bucs’ wrestling team traveled to East Kentwood last night to take on the Falcons in their third conference match of the season. The team started off hot after a pin at the 135 weight class from sophomore Ryder Smith. The match continued at a quick pace, both teams battling for dominance. The Bucs took control after a 12-2 major decision at 189 from Juan Beccerra. The East Kentwood Falcons fell to the Bucs 38-30 giving Grand Haven their first conference win of the season.

Key moment: Freshman Cody Miller secured the win for the Bucs after a 12-2 major decision in one of the final matches of the night.

Key player: Junior Drake Morley had a tough match against East Kentwood at the 171-pound weight class. Morley was down throughout the match until the second period when he reversed his opponent and pinned him giving the Bucs six points over the Falcons.

Record: 1-3 in the O-K Red conference

Up Next: The Bucs host the West Ottawa Panthers on Wednesday, Feb. 2, in a non-conference match.
