Boys varsity team defeats Rockford in semifinals of districts

WHAT HAPPENED

The varsity boys soccer team beat Rockford 3-2 last night after an emotional overtime and two intense shootouts. After the regulation time ended, the score was tied 1-1. However, during the second half of overtime both teams scored, ending overtime 2-2, resulting in the first shootout. In the second shootout, Grand Haven scored one more goal than Rockford ending in a win for the Buccaneers.

WHAT IT MEANS

The varsity team now moves on to the third and final round of districts, playing against Grand Rapids Union on Thursday, October 17.

KEY PLAYERS

Senior Max Jerovsek scored the first goal in regulation. 

Senior Zachary Falconer scored a tying goal in the second half of overtime.

Junior Jack Kurburski had many costly saves to keep the game alive for the bucs. 

THEY SAID IT

“After the game I just felt relieved and excited that we won and are still alive,” said junior Jack Kurburski. “As a team I think we showed that we are a close knit group since we had each others back for 90 minutes and then PK’s. This should carry over to Thursday and I feel as if when we play together we are one of the best teams in the state.”
