Girls Basketball beats Ludington in close game
WHAT HAPPENED:
The girls’ varsity basketball team beat Ludington by two points on Tuesday, Feb. 4. They came out strong and lead the first quarter with a score of 11-3. The Bucs were able to maintain their lead with a score of 22-17 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Orioles fought back. The Bucs were outscored 12-7 in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth. The final score was 46-44.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:
The victory ended Ludington’s 11 game winning streak. The non-conference game changes their record to 8-5 overall. The Bucs remain 2-4 in conference.
KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Jolee Houle was a large offensive presence and led the team with 14 points and 5 assists.
- Sophomore Caydee Constant followed close behind with 13 points. She also led the team with three steals.
- Sophomore Zoe Spoelman led the team with a total of seven rebounds and three blocks. She also scored 13 points.
THEY SAID IT:
“It was a tough game because Ludington was very aggressive as the game progressed,” Spoelman said. “But, we worked hard and came through to get the win.”
WHAT’S NEXT:
The Bucs take on West Ottawa at home on Friday, Feb. 7. Although they beat West Ottawa in a previous game, it is expected to be close because both teams have improved since.
