Coach Doug Thorne explains the plan for practice. The Bucs open their season against Mona Shores High School on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at home.

The Buccaneer boys Swimming and Diving team kicks off its season against the Mona Shores Sailors with a home meet. The meet will take place on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. and will be the first of three meets that the team will have in the span of five days before heading into Christmas break.

“Being the first meet there’s always surprises.” coach Doug Thorne said. “It’s just more important to just get that first meet under your belt and get back into the swing of things.”

Up to this point, the Bucs have had only a few weeks to train and prepare for their season. Despite the lack of time, the Bucs are focused and ready for the opportunity to compete.

“We haven’t done a whole lot of training up to this point,” Thorne said. “ We are just going to try and get through these first couple of meets and see what we have. It’s a good opportunity to put kids in different events to see what they can do. Once we get to Christmas break, then we will really start up in our training and get after it.”

Although the Bucs are optimistic about being able to perform well in their first meet, they are more concerned about giving their full effort and preparing themselves for the rest of the season.

“I’m looking for them to give me what they have,” Thorne said. “You know, I don’t care about their times right now. I don’t care about if we win or lose. If we win that’s super nice, but right now it’s about having that opportunity to get out and compete and see what we have.”
