Netflix movie of the week: Cyberbully
November 19, 2015
We tend to enjoy things more when we relate to them. “Cyberbully” is a movie that I think many teenagers could find a connection to. It also addresses the problems that teens on social networking can go through.
The movie is about a teen girl, Taylor Hillridge (Emily Osment), who receives a laptop for her birthday, and opens an account on Cliquesters, a social network similar to Facebook, that changes her life for the worse. Her friends betray her, terrible rumors get spread at school, and she gets harassed online.
This movie is a tearjerker but also an eyeopener for teens and parents. For example, when Taylor posts a video online saying how she is done with living and her friend found her trying to overdose. You see how she has changed from being a happy teenager to a depressed one, because of cyber–bullies.
The 2011 film was rated four out of five stars on Common Sense Media because of its approach to online bullying.
if you enjoy stories that are realistic and relatable, this movie is for you. It has amazing acting that brings you into the story and a has an impactful lesson. I would recommend this movie to anyone on social media to give a reality check about the reality of social media.
