Boys water polo loses to Hudsonville at Bucs Pride game

The boys water polo team lost the Sept. 25 game against Hudsonville with a final score of 4 – 14. The Grand Haven team wore purple Bucs Pride shirts for cancer recognition and all players had a special name, honoring those who had the disease.

“It’s a learning experience to actually play with somebody you don’t play against normally,” Junior Thomas MacDonald said. “You can come out being a better water polo player.”

During the fourth quarter of the game, Junior Michael MacDonald managed to hit a backdoor lob (when a swimmer goes backwards to throw into the goal), scoring a point for the team.

“My favorite moment of the game was when Michael managed a backdoor goal,” Sophomore Sam Timmer said.
These games help develop the team by the connections the students forge with each other, as well as reinforcing what they’ve practiced.

“It’s just practice and it gets us to get playing people that we don’t know and hits us,” Timmer said.
