Seniors make final splash with belly flop competition
Senior Ellyn Skodack organized a belly flop competition that took place on May 6. She and the student senate hoped to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis.
“A week ago, I was talking with some friends about being sad we didn’t get to do the typical homecoming belly flop contest,” Skodack said. “The cystic fibrosis part of it is something that I’ve been involved with all of high school.”
Any student could sign up to flop, but due to capacity limitations, only a limited number of seniors could watch. Nevertheless, the crowd was on fire.
“There was lots of energy and great belly flops,” Skodack said. “Our announcers were also hilarious”
In the end, three-time belly flop champ Thomas Macdonald took home the victory with the best splat of the day.
The belly flop competition was something fun amidst a year that’s nothing like usual. Skodack is grateful for all of those who could make it happen.
“We are so lucky to have an awesome group of student senate and the pool director who was willing to let us host such a fun day,” Skodack said. “It was a blast and I hope they continue this tradition.”
