Boys cross country off to hot start
September 20, 2022
WHAT HAPPENED: The boys cross country team, currently ranked at fourth in the state and first in region, finished in fourth place at the Michigan State University meet on Friday, Sept. 16. According to Mr. Tarr, this is the best they had ever done at this yearly event.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: The team is working to finish in the top 5 at the state meet in 8 weeks, with their biggest competitor being Northville. Although they lost to Northville at the MSU meet on Friday, their times were close and they hope to still get in the top 5 at the State Meet.
KEY RUNNERS: Junior Seth Norder and Senior Nolan Clark ran personal best times at the MSU meet, putting the team at 4th place overall. Norder is ranked first place for Division I as an individual and Clark is ranked 8th place for Division I in the state.
“We gotta have both of those guys running well to be a great team,” said John Tarr, boys varsity cross country coach. “So those two guys are really leading the pack right now.”
WHAT’S NEXT: The boys next meet is Tuesday, September 20 at South Christian Highschool with races beginning at 4:30 p.m.
THEY SAID IT: “You know, the key in this sport is that you manage their training. So we just need to make sure that we’re giving them the right training at the right time and avoiding injury and sickness. And if we can avoid those things this will probably be the best team we’ve ever had.”
