Player to watch: Varun Biddanda
October 6, 2014
Senior Varun Biddanda, is this week’s player to watch for Grand Haven athletics. Biddanda is boys varsity tennis number one singles player and team captain.
“He (Biddanda) is a quiet leader,” varsity coach Jeremy Case said. “He does a lot of the little intangibles, that’s so important from the seniors.”
In a home match Sept. 29, Biddanda had a strong performance against Comstock Park. He defeated opposing player Zac Rossman 6-3, 6-0. Varun’s wins contributed to the teams victory 8-0 over Comstock Park.
Biddanda has been a consistent player for the Bucs all season and currently has a 5-3 record. Case attributes this to his high knowledge of the game.
“He breaks things down; from the angles of the court to how his opponent is hitting,” Case said. “He’s such a smart player.”
Biddanda’s teammates appreciate not only his leadership qualities but his character and the atmosphere he creates on and off the court.
“Varun leads by example,” junior teammate Tristan Tongue said. “Not only is he fun to watch because he is so good, but he is also fun to be around because of his personality.”
Fans should look for Biddanda as Grand Haven travels to Holland for regionals on Thursday Oct. 9.
