Student Senate Leaders Share Goals For The New Year

As the 2021-2022 school year continues, the GHHS student senate has been working regularly to plan and improve activities both in-school and out. Despite this work, most GH students and members of the community are not aware of each class’s leadership team on the student senate. 

Alexis Naperala- Full Senate President

Q: Why did you pursue becoming Senate President?

A:Since I was a freshman I had always aspired to be President of the entire group.” Naperala said “I loved how passionate past presidents were and wanted to replicate that. I am extremely humbled by being elected and am forever grateful.” 

Q: Why are you the best person for this job?

A: “As a leader, I am a very empathetic person and do everything I can in my power to make sure all voices are heard. I am also a very personable human. I love to be inclusive and talk to those with various ideas.”

Q: What plans do you have for the position you hold? 

A:  “This year I hope to reinvent the senate and start implementing acts of accountability and communication. In past years we have struggled with making sure everyone is in the loop”, “I have always felt that upperclassmen especially, take the lead in most committees and events. I want underclassmen to have the opportunity to lead as well. The Student Senate is a great opportunity to start developing the habits of a great leader.”

Ava Buitenhuis- Junior Class President 

Q: Why did you pursue becoming Senate President?

A:I wanted to be president because we have an amazing group of juniors in the senate that I love to work with,” Buitenhuis said, “I wanted to be able to implement everyone’s ideas into our plans and I think that I can connect with everyone in order to do that.” 

Q: What plans do you have for the position you hold? 

A:  “This year our main focus is incorporating the social aspect back into everyone’s school experience after COVID last year and another main focus for the junior class is planning prom in the spring.”

Lydia Koetsier- Sophomore Class President

Q: Why did you pursue becoming Senate President?

A:For me why I wanted to be president and why I think I excel at the job have a lot of similar reasons.” Koetsier said. “I am so passionate about the senate and truly want us to accomplish our goals to the best of our ability.”

Q: Why are you the best person for this job?

A: “That drive helps me put in all the extra time and commitment that is needed as president. I’m also very strong and comfortable in a leadership role so I’m able to lead meetings and other situations, like decorating, smoothly.”

Q: What plans do you have for the position you hold? 

A:  “My goal for our senators is to enjoy what we do. I love the senate so much and I want everyone else to feel that way, including the whole school. I want everyone to benefit from what we do and the events we put on.”

Cecilia Frendt- Freshman Class President

Q: Why did you pursue becoming Senate President?

A:I wanted to be President of the freshmen student senate because I wanted to be a leader in the school.”

Q: Why are you the best person for this job?

A: “I think I was selected for this position because of my communication, organizational skills, and my drive to be the best person I can be and make people smile.” Frendt said.

Q: What plans do you have for the position you hold? 

A:  “My goal in this position is to make school a more exciting place to be. I think that it is very important to have something to look forward to when you are undergoing lots of stress at school.”

 

The Student Senate is responsible for the planning, and execution of major school-wide activities, and with the dedication of the entire team, GHHS continues to have fun, seasonal activities.
