5 things to do instead of trick-or-treating

Scott Bays, Reporter

You might look too old or feel too old for trick-or-treating, but this shouldn’t preclude you from a good time this Halloween. Whether you want to skip the holiday all together or get involved with seasonal festivities here are five options for fun this October 31.

Go to the movies

For those that really want to get away from the Halloween hubbub you can hide out at the theater and try to figure out why there is a sixth Paranormal Activity movie. The two hour trick-or-treating time block will seem like it never happened.

Halloween parties can be few people hanging out or a more organized costume affair. Activities could include classics like bobbing for apples or telling scary stories. A Halloween celebration is a good way to get into the spirit of the season without having to hit the streets.

Hulu and hide

If plans aren’t your thing just ignore the outside world and stay home to watch a movie. If holing up with a disc, tape, or streaming service is routine, spice it up with a classic horror movie. It’s all the fun of Halloween without any of the effort or interaction.

Go to a haunted house

If you are looking for a step up from the standard Halloween scares a local haunted house like the Murder Castle in Muskegon could make an exciting Halloween destination. Halls, mazes, forests and cornfields are also available, if houses aren’t your thing.

Pass out candy

Instead of walking around begging for candy you could sit in one place and give it out. Take the burden off your parents and see all of this year’s costumes. It’s the perfect activity for those that don’t want to trick-or-treat but still want to get the full Halloween experience.
