Showing up for November

Principal, Tracy Wilson invited author, David Staal to host a luncheon with 45 students in various leadership positions. Staal came to talk about his new book entitled Show Up on Oct. 19.

Over the summer, Staal sent Wilson a copy of his new book. She saw it as a great opportunity to share with students.

“At times it’s going to get a little edgy, because I know that sometimes what you need is a little bit of a challenge,” Staal said.

Wilson’s challenge in the month of October was “Adam’s Acts”, but for November she has something new for students. Wilson has challenged 45 students to read Staal’s book and then to pass it on. Her goal is to get at least 300 students to read the book. According to Wilson, it takes a small group to create a ripple effect.

Wilson invited Staal as a way to hopefully motivate student leaders to accept a greater role in shaping the school’s climate.

“We as adults, can only do so much,” Wilson said. “It’s up to you guys to make a change. It’s up to you guys to make people feel accepted and okay no matter where they walk, no matter what they do and no matter what they choose to be involved in.”
