Letters to Sala stirs up powerful emotions

The theater department put on “Letters to Sala,” on April 27-29. This heartbreaking story centers around a young girl named Sala, played by sophomore Lareyna Plescher, during World War II. She is a jew who is placed in a work camp to help her family. While she is there, she receives many letters from friends and families, which she hides to keep the memories of these people alive.

While watching what happened to Sala when she was younger, we see Sala today, played by sophomore Lizzie Hill. Sala gives all the letters that she kept throughout the war to her daughter, and an argument began over what to then do with the letters.

The play was powerful and changed many of the actors and actresses outlook on suffering.

“It has changed my outlook quite a bit,” Plescher said. “I knew about WWII quite a bit, but this helped me open my eyes even more to realize the sufferings of those people and how that can never happen again. The plays shows you should treat everyone with dignity and respect.”
