Grand Haven sets a Christmas theme for this years banquet with strings of lights

What happened:
Nov. 30, 6 to 9 pm, Grand Haven High School volleyball players celebrated the end of the school volleyball season. Freshmen, JV and Varsity team members as well as their families had a formal banquet at the Watermark Church. Teams’ coaches pointed out the successes of the games this year. Each player received an athletic award that was followed by individual characteristics given by either a coach or teammates. The main coach Aaron Smaka prepared a 15-minute slideshow revealing varsity team backstage memories and highlights of the tournaments. Senior volleyball players gave speeches that closed the event leaving everyone in tears.

Senior players:
Katie Cole, Libby Cole, Sophia Newhouse, Morgan Ross, Cassidy Schumacher, Maddy Housenga, Claire Holman, Kennedi Bernia.

The most memorable moment:
Senior Katie Cole bursts into tears during her speech so asks her twin Libby to finish reading.

“Thank you to this amazing coaching staff, I’m so grateful, well, she is so grateful for all the hours you put in our team to make them the best they can be. Our team went through some adversities this year that tested us emotionally but we finished the season together, and as strong as we could,” Libby reads. “I’m blessed with such an amazing group of girls who love and care for each other. This sport wouldn’t be so much fun without these amazing teammates,” Libby finishes, hugs her twin sister, wipes her tears, and says that everything is ok.
