As of last week, the boys are back in the pool again, diving into another season. This year’s returning swimmers are already feeling the loss of their seniors from last season. With only a week in the pool, the team is heavily focused on getting back in shape before their first meet, one of the earliest meets to date, and seeing how the team will fit together in and outside of the pool.

“First meet is always the test,” senior Jack Stork said. “Once we see the first meet, we know what we need to do and how we need to do it.”

The team has already had a couple of interesting developments this year starting by discovering that several seniors, some with little to no swim experience, have joined the swim team for their final year. With new skill sets, the returnees are looking forward to seeing how the newcomers will fit into the team.

“I hoping to see the people who have been swimming are still at their same level and ready to improve, ready to keep going so we don’t have to do as much catch up,” Stork said.

Although the first meet will undoubtedly be intimidating, the team, on the whole, understands the importance of practicing. They’ve begun to get their bodies back into shape among other things.

“For now we just got to learn the strokes again, just get proficient with swimming back and forth for two hours a day,” Stork said. “Then once we figure how to swim back and forth for two hours we can start to worry about the little details.”

The boys will start the season in their home pool against Spring Lake, on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
